Whispers in the loggia: In Baltimore, "The Last Goodbye"

Amid an outpouring of memories, sadness – and, fittingly, rain all over the Northeast – here from the "New Cathedral" of the Premier See of these United States, the livefeed of Baltimore's farewell to Cardinal William Keeler... with their worship aid (from page 20):

Led by six cardinals and some 25 bishops, with the Mass to begin at 2pm Eastern, the subsequent cortege to the 14th Archbishop's chosen burial niche alongside his early predecessors at the Basilica of the Assumption will end with the Committal Liturgy at 4.30.

In what's quickly becoming a default practice for an American member of the Pope's Senate, for the third time in five years, today's homily will be given by the church historian Keeler viewed as his spiritual heir – Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York, likewise the preacher at the late cardinal's golden jubilee of priesthood in 2005... and from his then-base in Milwaukee, the lone US prelate to donate from his personal funds toward the restoration of the nation's mother-church.
